Welcome to the Kino-Plex! Here are some of my favorite films that usually play in here. Keep in mind the order does not matter.
The Greatest
These Movies are my true favorites. They edify as well as entertain.
- A Christmas Carol (1984)
- It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
- The Little Drummer Boy (1968)
- The Shop Around the Corner (1940)
- VeggieTales: The Toy That Saved Christmas (1996)
- Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy
- Pot O' Gold (1941)
- The Southerner (1945)
- The Quiet Man (1952)
- Ben-Hur (1959)
- McLintock! (1963)
- The George Lucas Star Wars Movies. All of these movies are un-ironically good. The Clone Wars is also really good.
- The How to Train Your Dragon Movies. These are probably some of the most creative, imaginative, and epic animated movies ever made, and they are definitely my favorites. I also really like the accompanying TV show, and I think most fans of the movies would too. The first two seasons are known as Riders of Berk, and the last six seasons are known as Race to the Edge.
- It's A Wonderful Life (1946)
- The Princess Bride (1987)
- Titan A.E. (2000)
- The Prince of Egypt (1998)
- The Incredibles
- Apocalypto
- Tarzan (1999)
- The Truman Show
- Toy Story 1 & 2. The third is OK, but not as good as the first two. I haven't seen the fourth.
- The Count of Monte Cristo (2002). This film, based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas, is one of mine, and my families, all-time favorites. The themes of Christ's deepest mercy and compassion on us is wonderful. It's on my to-do list to read the lengthy book.
- Open Range (2003)
- The Lord of the Rings Films. The extended editions are once again supreme by any mark.
- The Sam Raimi Spider-Man Films. These are my favorite super hero movies easily.
- Barnyard (2006). This is a very silly and fun movie to watch; yet it also has a very good message of not shirking from responsibility or destiny. My siblings and I grew up watching this Movie's accompanying show, and we still love it.
- Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. This movie, along with the accompanying show, is easily my favorite thing Nickelodeon has ever made. I loved it when I was a kid and I love it now. It has plenty of early 2000's energy, complete with a pop punk soundtrack. I think what really makes it enjoyable, aside from the nostalgia, is the fun stories and the characters, each of which stand out and work together to make a hilarious, yet meaningful, franchise.
- TRON: Legacy. I wrote some thought about the film here. I haven't seen the original, but it's on my to-watch list; trust me.
- 1917
- Tad: the Lost Explorer and it's sequel. This one's an odd pick; but my siblings and I love this movie for all its goofiness.
- The Tale of Peter & Fevronia (2017) is a Russian cartoon about Saints Peter and Fevronia. Upon reading their actual story (of which there are a couple of versions with only details that differ), I was delighted to see this movie is accurate to their story. This is a truly beautiful film that I could watch again and again, and I really can't wait to show it to my kids. If you're interested, you can watch a version with English subtitles on YouTube here.
- The Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy. I really like the original three movies. They are beautiful, fun, funny adventure movies at the top of their game.
- The Dollars Trilogy
- Robin Hood (1973)
- Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
- The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe (2005). This Narnia-film-adaptation is nearly 1:1 to the book in terms of the story, which is how it should be. Prince Caspian was still enjoyable but they changed a lot of things for the worst. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader butchered the original story, but there are still occasional scenes that remain faithful to the book.
Thoughtful Theater
These Movies might not be as uplifting as my other favorites (IE, they make for a bad family movie night usually), but they do allow for good conversation if watched with a mature, philosophical Christian audience.
Never accept philosophy from those who deny Christ!
- Stalker. This one is very thoughtful, but is very slow.
- THX 1138. A really creative and thoughtful movie. Then again, it's by George Lucas, so what did you expect?
- Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade
- Drive. I would recommend this movie more if there was a clean version. There's one very inappropriate scene.
- The End of Evangelion
- American Psycho
Cute Kino
These movies are fun. Whereas the "Thoughtful Theater" list had extremely mature movies, this list would be most appropriate to leave playing on a rainy afternoon for the children to watch while you fold laundry.
- Just about any of the classic VeggieTales could go here, samewith 3-2-1 Penguins
